What Is Welding
Welding is a process of joining two or more pieces of metal together by using heat and pressure. It is a very useful process that can be used to create everything from small objects to large structures.
Welding is often used in the construction industry, as it can be used to create strong and durable joints between metal beams and other materials.
What Types Of Welding Do We Do
There are many different types of welding, and the type that is used will depend on the materials being joined, the size of the project, and the desired results.
Stick Welding
For example, Arc Welding (Stick Welding, SMAW) is a popular type of welding that uses an electric arc to create heat and pressure. This type of welding is often used for projects that require strong and durable joints.
This is the most common welding process we employ for making welding repairs onsite. Arc welding is a very simple and effective method for making repairs to most items using carbon steel or stainless steel as the material.
Wire Feed
Another process that can be used in the field would be GMAW welding (Wire Feed, Semi-Automatic Process). This process is similar to stick welding in it uses a wire electrode on a roll and some form of shielding gas to provide the inert environment that is required to join the metals together. The benefit to using a Gas Metal Arc Welding process is that you can weld for longer periods as your consumable electrode doesn’t need to be changed as often as a stick electrode. This can help to speed up welding projects.
TIG Welding
The final process that we will employ for some welding projects is the Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) process. This method uses a hand torch with a piece of Tungsten metal and a filler rod held in the other hand. This method is much closer to “brazing” as it uses a separate torch and filler material. This is less common to be used in the field as it requires additional equipment and wind shielding. We would normally employ this method for thin wall stainless or for aluminum repairs that need to be done as it produces a good result by limiting heat input to the material.
